Unit 1: Introduction to Geomorphic Processes

• Definition and scope of geomorphology.
• The Earth's system: lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere.
• The role of geomorphic processes in shaping the Earth's landscape.

Unit 2: Weathering

• Mechanical weathering: physical breakdown of rocks.
• Chemical weathering: decomposition of rocks by chemical processes.
• Factors influencing weathering.

Unit 3: Erosion

• Water erosion: fluvial erosion, glacial erosion, coastal erosion.
• Wind erosion: deflation, abrasion, and deposition.
• Mass wasting: landslides, mudflows, and creep.

Unit 4: Transportation and Deposition

• Transportation of sediments by water, wind, and ice.
• Deposition of sediments: formation of landforms.
• Sedimentary rocks and their formation.

Unit 5: Geomorphic Landforms

• Fluvial landforms: rivers, valleys, deltas, and floodplains.
• Glacial landforms: moraines, cirques, U-shaped valleys.
• Coastal landforms: beaches, cliffs, dunes, and lagoons.
• Aeolian landforms: sand dunes, loess plains.

• Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: Understand the various geological processes shaping the Earth's surface: Explain the processes of weathering, erosion, transportation, and deposition. Analyze the factors influencing geomorphic processes: Identify the factors that affect the rate and intensity of geomorphic processes, such as climate, topography, geology, and human activities. Investigate the landforms created by different geomorphic processes: Recognize and describe the characteristics of various landforms, such as fluvial, glacial, coastal, and aeolian landforms. Explore the impact of human activities on geomorphic processes: Understand the ways in which human activities can accelerate or mitigate geomorphic processes. Develop spatial thinking and map analysis skills: Use maps and other geographic tools to analyze spatial patterns and relationships.
